About Rob
Rob Swain launched RESound Clinical Consulting in 2015 to provide high-quality customized consulting services to the medical device industry. He prides himself on offering hands-on, individualized support for each of his clients.
Raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Rob enrolled at Virginia Tech in 1981 and fell in love with the interdisciplinary study of Engineering Science and Mechanics - the physics of engineering. In 1985 he graduated magna cum laude with minors in math and philosophy and began his Master’s degree studying the mechanics of composite materials. Rob received a Presidential Fellowship for his doctoral education and graduated with his PhD in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech in 1992.
Rob was hired by Smith + Nephew in Memphis, Tennessee, supporting their composite hip program. He found his passion and calling in the medical device industry and has never looked back.
In 1998, Rob, his wife Susan, and their two children relocated from Memphis to Bedford, New Hampshire for Rob to pursue a new position with a start-up medical company in Massachusetts. The Swains fell in love with New England and have made New Hampshire their home ever since. In his nearly three decades in the medical device industry, Rob has worked for start-ups and large Fortune 500 companies establishing a rich and diverse experience base in cardiovascular, cancer therapeutics, orthopedics, neurosurgery, wound care, otolaryngology, critical care, as well as other disciplines.
